The costumes are a major part of the show and belly dancers do not take them off.
Why does belly dancing have a negative image?
Various religious influences forbid the dance to be performed in public arenas and dancers are viewed to harbour lower social classes. However, times have changed - and belly dancing is for everyone of every ethnic background and social bracket.
I have two left feet! Can I still take lessons?
Not all dance schools focus on choreography, while some don't teach it at all. The best thing to do is ask before you join.
Do I have to spend a lot of money on dance lessons?
Everyone has a different price list. Shop around and ask the following questions:

How long are the classes?
Does the price go up after beginners? If so; ask why.
Can you pay as you go or is there some sort of set fee?

How do I find the right teacher for me?
Ask yourself what you are hoping to get out of belly dancing. Have fun, perform, teach, tone up, lose inches. Ask the school that you are interested in what their specialty is.
